white miso or red miso?

Many recipes I've seen here on Justbento and Justhungry call for shiromiso: can I substitute red miso if I don't have the white kind? I've never tasted shiromiso, so I do not know if there is a big difference between the two kinds ...

Re: white miso or red miso?

Shiromiso is generally milder and less salty than red miso, which is why I prefer it for most recipes. You can substitute red miso, but you may need to adjust the amounts a bit to compensate for its stronger flavor (and saltiness).
