I am new to bento making and I was wondering about the punches used to make designs in seaweed sheets. I know you can order the punches from JBox but what has me curious is what is the difference between the decorative punches that JBox sells for Bento versus the decorative punches you can find in craft stores for scrapbooking? From the picture they look identicle. If you get a new decorative scrapbook punch and wash it thoroghly can it be used in the same manner with no negative side effects? Just something I was wondering about seeing as there are a lot of neat scrapbook punches readily available where I live and I could save money buying them and not having to pay shipping...

I have both, and they are identical. I can use the nori punches on paper, and I've used my scrapbooking punches on the nori.

The only difference is the name or the shape.

I did find that the nori is too fragile for the really intricate punches though (I tried a snowflake punch, and the nori just disintegrated)

I think that most punches for nori have plastic cutting parts, while paper punches have metal cutting parts.

The nori ones I picked up are meta, but I did get one that's plastic.

Thanks for the information. I am looking forward to raiding the $1 punch bin at JoAnn's..
