Weight Loss Post Challenge

I know personally I was not able to lose any weight during the challenge, but for some reason in the two subsequent weeks I lost 7 lb.

So I was wondering how other people have been fairing, have the habits that you developed during the challenge helped with continued weight loss? Or maybe there are other people like me that only after two months of counting calories (...again) was there any weight loss?

Re: Weight Loss Post Challenge

I'm still losing it. It's up to about 5kg (11lb) since the beginning of the challenge now.

Re: Weight Loss Post Challenge

I don't have a scale handy but I'm pretty sure I've lost weight these past 10 days or so. I've been sick, but what is reallly helping is having brown rice at least 1 meal a day. Bread tends to make me feel a bit bloated (though it's hard to resist the delicious bread here) but brown rice keeps me feeling light and airy. My pants are all loose...which could be a problem since my 'thinner' pants are all in storage!

Who gets Biggest Loser numbers in real life and manages to keep it off anyway? You guys are going great!

Re: Weight Loss Post Challenge

Great job mosaica! Unfortunately I cannot say the same.

I seem to have hit another sticking point. My body does not seem to want shed any more weight, I am at my thinnest since graduating high school, but I am still overweight (BMI calculations seem rather unforgiving, 160 lb as an ideal weight for a 6' tall woman just does not seem right to me). Sigh... I really have no choice but to keep trudging along, since I intend to be healthy and not just thin.

Re: Weight Loss Post Challenge

Thanks Stephanie! I visited my new nutritionist today, and it was a frustrating visit; I am looking for some up to date nutritional science, and this person, though a real sweet person, was really out of touch today. Nutritional science has had some real breakthroughs lately, and this lady is still using super-outdated algorithms. So I'm looking for a good nutritional lab within a hundred miles or so to try find some more modern information. Anyhow, this has been bugging me today, so you get to hear my mini-rant.

I sure know it can be frustrating to hit a plateau like what you're describing. I remember, back when I was rowing more than an hour a day, and I'd hit a plateau and not see any change for several weeks, it was really discouraging. Keep on plugging away, and the weight loss will resume! Speaking of rowing, I need to get back to it. I was all hot for a few weeks, but I've been a total sluggard for the last week or so. It's so easy to not row!

Cheers :-)

Re: Weight Loss Post Challenge

So true about the nutritional science, I am actually thinking that might be an area I would like to get into eventually after finishing the nursing program. But staying abreast of current research and studies is very important in that field, within the last 10 years there have been vast changes in our understanding of good nutrition (like some fat it actually beneficial and can help you lose weight v. all fat is bad).

And the plateau is frustrating, but I have seen a few improvements that I can take in place of weight loss. Today I swam approximately 2 miles non-stop, which I have not been able to do in years. So for now I will work on being able to swim my old events, 1000 free is already taken care of but 100 fly is still a bit scary. It was draining when I was 16 and in awesome shape, but it gives me something to shoot for :)

Re: Weight Loss Post Challenge

I have the same issue -- I'm two inches shorter than you, but am also expected to aim for the 150-160 range. It does seem a bit light for a woman that tall.
