I have purchased some cute, hairy little satoimo, and have suddenly remembered that I only know of one recipe for them. I was a lovely mash with mushroom sauce, from the Enlightened Kitchen... that book still lives down south with my parents (must get them to send it...) but I guess I could remember the recipe, but other than that... what other recipes can you good people recommend? If they are bento-friendly, all the better, but one can't have everything. Thanks in advance for any taro ideas! x

Ha ha, silly me, I should have remembered that post! Thank you. I wil defintely be trying the miso and tofu recipe. I like the idea of curries, too. It's interesting to hear about the sweet recipes; I think I need to broaden my horizons when it comes to the divisions between sweet and savoury foods. Perhaps it's because I am British, or probably more that I just had a sheltered life (!) but I tend to get it stuck in my mind that something is a savoury ingredient and never really try it in another context. This is from someone who finds sweet potato as a dessert a weird concept (perfectly normal to many people) and azuki beans in sweets even odder! That's probably due to growing up on Red Dragon Pie...
Right! That's it! I'm gonna try a satoimo sweet dish, too! Wish me luck!
Well, this is rather late, but I'm trying to make taro rolls so this caught my eye. Have you tried looking for Hawaiian recipes? I actually had no idea until recently that people outside of Hawaii even ate taro. :) Poi is the most obvious example, but it's mainly a palate cleanser and doesn't really have a taste. At all.
I had the best chicken sandwich on a taro roll years ago on Oahu... it was a nice shade of purple too. Always a plus.
Sweet potatoes make a great desert (I am referring to the bright orange ones, not the Japanese ones). Sweet potato pie and the way I cook sweet potatoes for thanksgiving are great sweet dishes (even though most consider it just another side dish).
