Plastic containers heating safety

Good night everyone! **waves**
I'm refusing to go to bed and therefore finish my weekend so here i am, lol!
I've been thinking of this lately and thought this may be an interesting topic for you all.
There are lot of bento boxes tagged as "microwave safe". I always prepare my food to be eaten at room temperature but all my job mates do reheat their food in the microwaves we are provided at work. Some of them carry crystal boxes that have plastic lids so they are completely safe when reheated. But most of them carry plastic boxes and throw them at the microwaves.
I told this to my mother and she said that it's not safe at all to heat food on plastic containers. She carries her food at her work in tupperware but she works at a little office and she has there plates and glasses on when she puts the food before she heats it. She is always telling me not to put my ready made food until it's completely cold down.
So... anyone can throw a little light to this? :)

Nothing in those would make me stop heating food in "microwave-safe" plastics.

I generally don't like to heat things in plastic containers, but not because of safety reasons. I'm more concerned about the containers getting warped or otherwise damaged. So I usually transfer stuff to glass or ceramic before heating. But otherwise I'm not worried, as long as a container says it is microwave safe. For most bento boxes these days, the container itself is microwave safe but the lids (esp. the inner silicone ones) aren't.

yeah that's what i think... my mother is a little hypocondriac u_u
but anyway i dislike the "plastic" flavor that remains in the food. Maybe it's just a psychological thing :)
Your things taste like platic after you heated them? That's funny...... I reheat my meals sometimes in a platic container but it never ever smeled or tasted like plastic. Shure you are using microwave save containers?
yeah... they are those tupperware from ikea that are supposed to be safe for anything xD

I'd say it sounds like a psychological thing / your mom's influence :) Nothing wrong with that though...do what you are comfortable with! (If you are talking about the containers from the Ikea 365+ line with the ventable lids, they are supposed to be microwave-safe.)
Ah... we have some of those too. Never had a strange smell or taste to food heated in one of those. So it have to be only in your mind.
