Hello everyone! ^____^ It's nice to meet you all! I'm sure we will exchange lots of nice recipes and thoughts and ideas and stuff!

I'm a sweet girl from that oh-so sunny place. I'm not a health nut, I just love fruits and veggies!
My favorite fruits are berries (especially strawberries!)
I started to make bento lunches for me, and snacks for my boyfriend.
most of them are fruit and veggie based, but I love me some dairy products! x3

So, does anyone else live in Cali?
do you cook for a loved one?
do you love strawberries?
What are some things "recommended" to purchase or try eating when starting out?

Re: Hi hi from Southern California!!

I live in CenCal but visit SoCal rather frequently as it much more pleasant than CenCal is ;) It's kind of funny but I also LOVE strawberries, and I swear that the ones purchased at roadside stands are always way better than the ones from the grocery store, but maybe that's just me.

I cook for my boyfriend a lot since we live together and occasionally make bento, but since life has been rather hectic lately I haven't done much in the way of bento recently, sigh

Forgot to add: I guess for starting out I'd definitely recommend tamagoyaki and maki's carrot kinpira. They're both fairly simple to make, not to mention DELICIOUS. I could live off kinpira, I swear.

On an unrelated note, is that Inoue from Bleach in your avatar? (<-anime nerd lol)

Re: Hi hi from Southern California!!

lol oh gosh >.< I suppose the term "the grass is always greener on the other side" comes into play because I adore CenCal and NorCal very much. I'm actually going to be traveling with a buddy all around Cali next year, so- oh my goodness! lots of bentos, for sure.

And strawberries in California are just delicious either way. ;3

I will definitely try those two recipes later (probably tomorrow, I'm very tired. >.<)

On that unrelated note, I have no idea. xD I love anime, just not bleach (sorry xD) It's something random I found on photobucket.

Upon closer inspection it is Inoue Orihime from Bleach, so now you know :)

Whoo! Strawberry fans!!
It is probably one of the most favored fruits other than apples and oranges.

I actually knew a girl who gets sick from eating bananas. >.<

Re: Hi hi from Southern California!!

I'm in San Diego... I'm new here too!
I'm trying to figure out how to make bento's for my family. I have my hubby and me and my 2 year old and my younger brother. We have an anime club that is wanting to start making bento's too. And strawberries are my favorite berry out there!!!
Also like Milk Pocky and want to try new things. Not much of a veggie lover but no one in my family is.

Re: Hi hi from Southern California!!

Hey there faechildmom!
My family is actually going to visit san diego today. :]

OMG, pocky = love. I swears it. I love most Japanese snacks. Sadly, my sweet tooth is still getting used to that salty seaweed which is in many, many common japanese dishes. Vegetables are probably just a habit.

and, I'm sure we could all start sharing recipes too! One of my favorite bento fillers is fresh fruit. ;3 It's simple and good.

But, Tuna burgers are pretty famous with my boyfriend, so it's a definite try for your family. There's a recipe on this site (where I dunno). But, I'll give you a simple one I do.

Mini Tuna Burgers:
1 can of tuna
1 egg
tsp of nutmeg
tbs of breadcrumbs
1/4 cup of green onion.

mix it all together. mold into mini burgers. heat up a non stick pan or oil a regular pan. It will cook fast, so perhaps cook each side of the burger for 1-1:30 minutes. Then, eat fresh or on mini buns! ^_^

Re: Hi hi from Southern California!!

Lol that sounds like an old family recipe but we use canned salmon and at alittle pepper and salt. I'm trying out the seaweed but so far it's not my favorite.

Re: Hi hi from Southern California!!

Also if you want take some saltine crackers and crumble them and use instead of bread crumbs. It makes it a little bit stiffer and really good. Add a little butter in the pan and brown really good. My grandmother and great grandmother has been doing this for generations's.

Fixing to get me a rice cooker and some rice to see if I can't experiment with making stuff. Off to cook and make my family guinea pigs!!!
