Hello all! I am new to making bento, and first thought about it after reading one of my favorite webcomics, where his wife starts making bento for him (http://www.reallifecomics.com/archive/090202.html). A friend of mine referred me to this site, and I have since been poring over its contents to gather as much information as I can possibly absorb. I am interested in it partially as a tool for weight loss, but also because I really like the idea of having a *real* lunch that tastes incredible, rather than Spaghettios or something of that nature. Also, veggies. I'm not a big fan of them, but I know I need them, and perhaps this new habit will teach me how to cook them and make them taste good. The orange juice carrots look particularly appealing. On top of all that, I love Japanese food, and I like the idea of eating it on a regular basis (or at least asian-inspired dishes).
I have a few obstacles to implementing this new bento plan, so I am trying to figure out how to balance everything so I don't go crazy. I am a part-time student and also work full-time. I am a student ambassador committee chair for my school's department, as well as a general busy bee with a few out-of-town weekend trips planned back to back in April (so planning for that will be quite interesting). My work is Monday - Friday, 8-5, basically. On Monday nights, I meet with my group for a class project, and Tues/Wed nights are class nights until 9-10pm. So my general plan is to pack lunch and dinner Monday - Wednesday using my Fit and Fresh lunch box, using the cooled section for dinner, and lunch only on Thursday and Friday.
Last week, I packed bento 2 times and loved it. This week, I have an ambitious plan laid out for lunch and dinner Mon-Wed and lunch on Thurs/Fri. Wish me luck! I hope I don't end up driving myself too crazy!

Welcome to Just Bento. I hope you don't drive yourself crazy too, but if it all starts getting a bit much just back off a little. Good luck with your plan!

Once you get started you will hate having to stop - and being busy is a very good reason to use this tool to make sure you eat well and stay healthy.

Man, you're right on that! Last week, I only made bento 2 times, and on the days I didn't bring it, I really wished I could have. I'm combining this with my new exercise plan: Play Dance Dance Revolution for at least 30 minutes, 3 days during the work week, and 1 hour on the weekend. It's a good workout, it's fun, and can easily be varied to keep me from getting bored with it.
Welcome Brandy! You sound like an organized person, so I think you will be successful in your goals. Have fun! :)
