Furikake stencils

I recently bought a few packets of stencils for sprinkling furikake to make trains, cats or rabbits. Stupidly, I read the instructions once then threw them out before actually using it. When I went to try it, the furikake didn't stay anywhere I wanted it too, and what was there came off when I took away the stencil. What's the trick?

Re: Furikake stencils

You need to make the surface of the rice very flat and even. The easiest way to do this is to fill your box, put the lid on and shake it upside down a few times. The lid will press the rice flat. You also need to have a very fine furikake for the best results. You can grind up any furikake finely, or use something like aonori (finely ground bright green nori used for okonomiyaki), or even mild paprika or something like that. You shake your box gently after sprinkling on the furikake to distribute the furikake as evenly as possible, and remove it very slowly. HTH!
