Brown Bento means...

Today I have a very brown bento and no picture to boot! But let me explain-today I knew I couldn't eat the veggie curry again (I need variety) so I relied on my food stockpiles. Bento was somewhat easy today. I threw 4 mini meatballs, an aburaage pacakage stuffed with 2 tsps of ham fried rice and 3 homemade dumplings into a 350 oven while I ironed the Sun's clothes. He had opted to make his own sandwich today so Mom was off the hook. I had made a bit of fresh rice noodles with black beans and cilantro (a recipe from Kylie Kwong's My China) the night before and had about 1/2 c still so that went into the bento next to 5 spears of frozen organic asparagus. The dumplings once thawed went into a cup, the meatballs down the side of the noodes and the aburaage in the corner. A sprinkle of green onions and cilantro leaves, a drizzle of ketchap mani on the meaty-balls and I was ready. I just wish I had a bit more red pepper or something. I will add some sambal at lunch so some red will play out. But man was this bento brown! I'm glad my box has a pleasant apple green accent around the edges and steam flap. But its clear my bentos need some tweaking. Also I see what Browyncalisle says about being carb heavy. Good to know.
