Bento Lunches for Grownups feature on Redbook

redbookfeature.jpg

I'm very happy that JustBento is featured on the website of Redbook Magazine, in a slideshow titled Bento Lunches for Grownups. It has 9 bentos from this site (maybe you'll recognize a couple) that are all very easy to put together. It was a real pleasure to work with Ava on this, and I hope it will introduce even more people to the world of bento. (For those of you not in the U.S., Redbook is a major women's magazine, aimed primarily at American working women with families. Wikipedia on Redbook.)

If you found us via Redbook, welcome! You'll find a lot of information here, from the very basics on up. We're just concluding a Bento for Beginners online course called Bento 101: Getting Into The Bento Habit (start here, and follow the links at the bottom) which may be helpful if you're curious about how it all works.

I'd also like to belatedly say hi to everyone who came over from LifeHacker. Hi guys! Bento really is a pretty good life hack. ^_^

Congrats! Great article. I've made the Chana Dal with Almonds (I subbed pine nuts because of an almond allergy), the Sesame Beef, and the classic Japanese (substituting smoked salmon for salted). My favorite of the lot is the sesame beef, which has the benefit of being a dinner my husband loves too. I make a big batch, then I get leftovers for the week!

Hi Maki,

The link to Redbook website needs to be fixed- at the beginning you need to delete "www.justbento.com"

you don't need to publish this :)

Re: Bento Lunches for Grownups feature on Redbook

Nah that wasn't the problem (see my above comment). Fixed now though. Thanks for spotting it!

Well done Maki! I'm so happy that the bento world is getting more popularity! I've been making bentos almost everyday for about three months now. I can't tell you what a difference its made in my health and energy :) I hope more people try it and experience it for themselves!

Plus your recipes are so easy and soooo tasty! It makes it easy to pack my bento when I have a lovely stash in the freezer of all my favorites!

Keep up the good work :D

Hi,

I bought the just bento cookbook. it is great but I really want a book with more traditional japanese bento recipes. will you have a book like that?

Also, I have a question, in Japan, do mothers pack bento in the morning or in the night before? Since traditional bento box is not supposed to go to the microwave.

You book and website are awesome, thank you for sharing!
